Commitment is the next step after transparency. It is critical that universities demonstrate their commitment to building upon their successes and absolving their mistakes. This step allows the state to be set for action to be taken because it allows proper time to analyze, set goals, and make plans for how to move forward.

How can universities SHOW THEIR COMMITMENT to environmental change?

COMMIT TO THE STARS STANDARD OF REVIEW

STARS, or the Sustainability Tracking, Assessment, and Rating System, is the first system of its kind designed for colleges and universities to self-report their sustainability successes. Participants can receive 1 of 5 ratings – Platinum, Gold, Silver, Bronze, or Reporter – based on their scoring out of 100 possible points in the metric. Points are awarded in the categories of Academics, Engagement, Operations, and Planning and Administration. Even being a reporter signals a commitment to making change. Find out if your university participates – and where they stand, if so – here.
