United Nation 17 SDGs & Global Climate Pledge

Pledge for People & Planet

The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, adopted by all United Nations Member States in 2015, provides a shared blueprint for peace and prosperity for people and the planet. At its heart are the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which are an urgent call for action by all countries. They recognize that ending poverty and other deprivations must go hand-in-hand with strategies that improve health and education, reduce inequality, and spur economic growth – all while tackling climate change and working to preserve our oceans and forests.

How can the Global Climate Pledge act as an entryway into helping the SDGs?

We at the Global Climate Pledge are primarily working on SDG 13, which is “Climate Action”.

As stated, the SDGs have to be met by 2030 — this means we have only TEN years left to achieve our goals. We are now in the most defining time of our history.

The Global Climate Pledge will engage 2 billion people by the end of 2022 to take CLIMATE ACTION. Statistically, people who take a pledge are 80% more likely to maintain their goals. Thus, people who pledge…ACT!

Decade of Action

With only 10 years, we need to have a critical mass within our population join us in meeting these goals. All hands need to be on deck!  Individuals matters, businesses matter, NGOs matter, governments matter, Indigenous Nations matter, Universities matter, YOU matter — and so on. Everyone and every organization needs to be part of the solution!

The pledge engages ALL of these groups and individuals and can be a catalyst for bringing each of them into the rest of the 17 SDGs.

By utilizing the Global Climate Pledge alongside the 17 SDGs, we can mobilize more people to take part and keep their promise of becoming a climate change champion. Moreover, by using global action, people action, and local action, we can generate an unstoppable movement.
