What is Zero Waste?
Zero waste can be defined as the “…conservation of all resources by means of responsible production, consumption, reuse, and recovery of products, packaging, and materials without burning and with no discharged to land, water or air that threaten the environment or human health.” (Zero Waste International Alliance, 2018)
Why is Being Zero Waste So Important?
-
- It reduces climate impact!
-
- It conserves resources and minimizes pollution. (Our current culture of consumption is unattainable for the years to come!)
-
- It protects our communities by reducing pollutants, toxins, etc.
-
- It supports a circular economy and creates jobs in the community!
How Do We Implement Zero Waste?
-
- Refuse…What you don’t actually need!
-
- Reduce…What you use!
-
- Reuse…Until it no longer works!
-
- Repair…What you can!
-
- Recycle…Only when all other options have been exhausted!
