Our international partners engage in a variety of projects that help promote sustainability and climate response in their countries of focus. Some of these projects, such as those created in response to national disasters/crises or a need to build local infrastructure, require fundraising in order to support their efforts. This page is continuously updated with their most recent projects. Each of these organizations has a 501(c)3 status and all donations through the links provided will be tax-deductible in countries such as the United States.
High Atlas Foundation
Morocco
The High Atlas Foundation (HAF)Â generates greater income and uplifts farming communities out of poverty by planting high-quality organic fruit trees. HAF, together with local cooperatives and caretakers, raise the trees in community-managed nurseries and then distribute them to farmers and schools throughout Morocco. The project helps build the skills of farmers in growing trees and monitoring them as they grow. The fruit varieties include almond, argan, carob, cherry, date, fig, olive, pomegranate, and walnut. In the 2021 planting season, HAF with communities planted over 700,000 trees with 6,000 farming families in 39 provinces and monitored 410,00 trees after the planting season. Give to help HAF plant 1 million trees in the upcoming 2022 planting season (December 15, 2021 – March 2022).
Mokolodi Nature Reserve
Botswana
Mokolodi Nature Reserve (MNR) is home to a variety of mammals including some rare and endangered species, a diverse array of reptile, amphibian, bird species and abundant indigenous vegetation. MNR is also one of the country’s only formally recognised wildlife rehabilitation centre and orphanages for injured, sick, or vulnerable wildlife. With Mokolodi being the only suitable sanctuary in Botswana, injured and poisoned vultures get brought in to be helped with recovery and rehabilitation. Sick vultures are assessed and medicated by vets, and Mokolodi care for them until they can be released.
We are looking to enhance our vulture aviary by increasing the size of the aviary to allow flight for exercise and give a better chance of survival when rehabilitated and released back into the wild. Funds and donations raised will help Mokolodi achieve this goal by allowing us to build the new aviary and further feed, medicate and house any vultures in our care. As this is a long-term project, the donations and funds raised will continue to help with the care and feeding beyond the aviary construction. Repopulating the endangered vulture population is our primary goal with providing the best possible care and facilities.
Alturas Wildlife Sanctuary
Costa Rica
In our mission to rescue, rehabilitate, and release wildlife, we have to maintain a clinic fully stocked and ready to address any emergency that arrives. Any donation made to Alturas Wildlife Sanctuary goes to maintaining a clinic ready to address any situation, a qualified staff providing the best care for animals while they are here, and providing a quality diet and environment for their recovery. We also maintain great welfare to those animals we are unable to release and have permanent residence in our sanctuary. Your support allows us to continue to provide them with a high quality life and educate visitors how important it is for our wildlife to remain in the wild and help protect the earth.
Community Carbon Trees
Costa Rica
Help Costa Rican men and women to produce, plant, and maintain native trees in biological corridors on their own farms. This takes pressure off of logging in the rainforest by creating sustainable interdependent businesses, where local people are economically empowered to improve their livelihoods and financially incentivized to protect local trees. Max offset CO2 and transpiration excess water vapor to combat climate change.
Long-Term Benefits:
- Remove 30,000 tons of CO2 from atmosphere
- Preserve rainforest flora and fauna
- Reforestation in critical watershed reduces ocean acidification through erosion control and lower temperatures
- Create sustainable business for 44 women to produce fertile soil, organic fertilizers and pesticides
- Create long term income for more than 50 Costa Ricans producing, planting and maintaining trees around rivers and streams of their own deforested farms in wildlife corridors
