Guyane Nature Environnement
GNE is a French Guyanese nonprofit focused on the management and limitation of underground mining activities, the preservation of water quality, the conservation of aquatic ecosystems and the responsible management of the environment, especially the coastal environment. GNE focuses on environmental justice and its intersection with human rights, lobbying the Guyanese government to fight for environmental rights.
WWF Guyana
WWF Guianas started as a branch of WWF International in 1999, with just 5 staff members. In the last two decades, WWF Guianas has become one of the most influential and important environmental organizations in the Guianas. From a focus on marine turtle conservation in the early 2000s to large scale forest conservation and climate resilience, WWF Guianas champions an integrated approach to conservation that balances environmental preservation and human well-being. WWF Guianas’ programming include ocean preservation, forest preservation, freshwater access, food security, and the fostering of the wellbeing of local communities. In the face of climate change, fighting for food and water security has become all the more crucial in the Guianas where more and more strains are placed on the nation’s’ natural resources.
