China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation (CBCGDF)

China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation (CBCGDF) is a public foundation and a non-profit NGO approved by the State Council and supervised by China Association for Science and Technology. Originated in 1985 for the reintroduction of Père David’s deer back to China, CBCGDF has long been committed to conserve biodiversity and promote green development. As the leading biodiversity organization in China, CBCGDF dedicates itself to advance the construction of ecological civilization. The foundation has filed 50% of Environmental public interest litigation cases against polluters and habitat destroyers, and it has organized trainings on environmental public interest litigations for judges, prosecutors, and lawyers. CBCGDF always welcome volunteers from all over the world to join.

Bluetech Clean Air Alliance (BCAA)

Bluetech Clean Air Alliance (BCAA) is a non-profit organization focused on the development of clean air technology and industries in China, They use a variety of methods such as technology transfer, technology assessment, investment services, IP protection and policy research to do so. Over the past five years, BCAA has conducted various clean air research projects, carried out pilot projects in 12 provinces and cities in China, published 52 policy research reports, assessed nearly 300 advanced clean air technologies from 22 countries, and established collaborations with partners across 20 countries. BCAA also honors clean air technology projects through their Bluetech Award; winners of this award are provided the resources to accelerate the application of their technologies in the Chinese market.

China Association for NGO Cooperation (CANGO)

The China Association for NGO Cooperation (CANGO) is a non-profit organization operating nationwide, with work concentrated in Central and Western China that focuses on environmental protection and capacity building. Since its founding 24 years ago, CANGO has developed project cooperation with 181 foreign NGOs and bilateral and multilateral organizations.

China Carbon Forum (中国碳论坛)

The China Carbon Forum provides an independent platform to establish relationships as well as a collective understanding of information among climate change stakeholders in China. These stakeholders include companies, local and international organizations, governmental bodies, policymakers, consultants, academics, and more. They hold public events, workshops, speaker series, and conduct research to offer a way for climate change mitigation strategies to be discussed. These strategies are discussed in the context of China with those who have the power to take action, and who are knowledgeable and passionate.

China Environmental Protection Foundation (CEPF)

Since their founding in 1993, the China Environmental Protection Foundation (CEPF) has focused its efforts on raising funds for biodiversity protection, green development, and the prevention and control of environmental pollution. CEPF has carried out numerous projects involving public welfare initiatives, drinking water aid, ecological poverty mitigation, environmental protection, and university student collaboration. Some of their specific projects include their “Geping Green Action” project, which aims to support rural communities in environmental development, and their “Small Funding for Environmental Protection Activities of College Students” project, which works to fundraise university students’ environmental protection endeavors.

China Water Risk (CWR)

China Water Risk (CWR) was launched in 2011 to foster efficient and responsible use of China’s water resources. To accomplish this, they engage with global business and investment communities to further understand and manage China’s water risk under the threats of climate change. Today, CWR leads the global water risk conversation movement with proprietary research including co-publishing policy briefs with government-related bodies in China and beyond. CWR has played a part in the recognition and quantification of water risks in both the policy-making and financial spaces.

China Youth Climate Action Network (CYCAN)

China Youth Climate Action Network is China’s first non-profit environmental organization to focus on empowering China’s youth to tackle climate change. CYCAN promotes youth participation in civil society and helps to create a low-carbon sustainable future through projects such as the 2030 Zero-Carbon Campus Project. CYCAN has now engaged more than 500 Chinese universities and 100,000+ Chinese youth to take action to combat and raise awareness about climate change and to carry these efforts into their future careers.

Friends of Nature(自然之友)

China’s Friends of Nature organization was established in 1993 and officially became the country’s first environmental NGO in 1994. Their mission is to rebuild the connection between humans and nature, protect China’s natural environment, and promote individual sustainability. They work primarily in four different ways: public action and participation, environmental education programs, policy advocacy, and environmental litigation. One of their larger projects, called the Blue Sky Lab project, attempts to increase smog and pollution detection through research and public participation, and subsequently researches ways to mitigate this pollution.

Global Environmental Institute (GEI)

The Global Environmental Institute (GEI) was founded in 2004 with the aim of securing sustainable development within the country’s borders and abroad. Based in Beijing, GEI Works alongside key policymakers, businesses, scientists, civil society leaders, and local communities to foster dialogue and innovative solutions to protect the environment and enhance economic opportunity within China, Southeast Asia, and Africa. While prioritizing conservation, GEI’s goals revolve around leading policy change, facilitating high-level cooperation, and empowering community development.

Global Village of Beijing Environmental Education Center

Since their founding in 1996, Global Village of Beijing Environmental Education Center has had a goal of promoting the construction of ecological civilization in China by initiating green living, building green communities, and cultivating green media. Global Village also carries out rural eco-community building that emphasizes happy communities and homes, and provides environmental education services and social work skill training such as energy resource education and chemical safety. Global Village also works to establish a “Happy Home” focused on the care of children an rural community development. Since 1996, Global Village has united many NGOs to carry out green events such as 26 Degrees Air Conditioning or No Car Day, and encouraged the development of related public policies.

Greater Mekong Subregion Core Environment Program

The Greater Mekong Subregion (GMS) Core Environment Program (CEP) was launched in 2006 to respond to concern in the region over potential environmental impacts due to increased economic activity. This program concentrates on certain issues such as biodiversity, climate change, and natural resource protection. The CEP focuses on work in the Guangxi and Yunnan regions in China as well as other countries including Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam, and Myanmar.

Green Camel Bell

Green Camel Bell (GCB), the first governmental environmental protection organization in Gansu, was established in 2004. It aims to protect and restore the deteriorated ecological environment in Western China. Since its establishment, GCB has played an active role in carrying out public education, such as promoting sustainable organizations and programs in high schools. Furthermore, they train volunteers and encourage communities to take action in environmental protection, alongside so much more. The organization also conducts impactful research regarding public air quality and water usage.

Greenkeepers (China Branch)

Greenkeepers is a nonprofit, student-created, student-run, international, environmental NGO with the goal of making improvements in the environment in our local communities. The mission of Greenkeepers is to bring awareness to and solve immediate environmental issues from a local scale, later inspiring neighboring communities and nations to do the same through leading by example. They are striving towards a world where communities are environmentally conscious of their actions, and people protect the environment not only for its intrinsic value but to enrich people’s lives as well.

Greenovation Hub works to promote cross-sectoral dialogue through independent thinking and enable wider public participation in environmentalism. Their work also strives to foster synergy between civil society, business and the government to accelerate the green transition in China and around the world. GHub promotes the development and implementation of climate and environmental friendly policies through conducting in-depth analysis and research, and fostering dialogues among stakeholders. The overall mission is to drive China’s green transition towards a sustainable, equitable and climate resilient future, contributing the the reduction of global ecological footprint.

Institute of Public and Environmental Affairs (IPE)

The Institute of Public and Environmental Affairs is a non-profit environmental research organization that works in many areas of environmentalism. It relies upon the cooperation of many entities, including the government, other research organizations, NGOs, corporations, and other stakeholders to accomplish its goals. One of its main projects called, The Green Supply Chain, is to collect and analyze environmental data and then provide it to the public through an online database. The Pollution Information Transparency Index examines and evaluates pollution data released by the government. The organization has another project called, Green Finance, which collates data from banks, companies, and other financial institutions to improve environmental and sustainable practices by private companies.

Partnership on Sustainable, Low Carbon Transport (SLOCAT)

SLOCAT is an international partnership focusing on Asia, Latin America, and Africa that facilitates collective education and action on sustainable, reduced carbon transportation. This is within the larger goal of mitigating climate change and putting a spotlight on it as a huge international issue. Through three different avenues: policy and engagement, knowledge and research, and multi-stakeholder dialogue, SLOCAT attempts to focus on creating and supporting low-carbon emission transportation and transportation systems in the Global South.
