AGED Burkina

AGED’s overall vision is to cultivate a resilient rural population that is well equipped for sustainable development in the fragile context of climate change. The organization’s objectives include strengthening the management of natural resources and promoting equitable socioeconomic development based on good governance. Their areas of focus include natural resource management and climate change, sector approach and fair trade, water, hygiene, sanitation, and renewable energy. AGED has mainly helped agricultural households and small producers through their capacity building and development projects. This has improved the management of natural resources, agricultural productivity, people’s income, and resilience to conflicts and climate change effects.

The Angels Guardians of Nature

The Angels Guardians of Nature (AGN), also called The Association of Eco-Guards of Burkina, is a non-profit association with a mission to develop wildlife protection and classified forest areas, participate in ecological monitoring, and support the fight against poaching. AGN also trains eco-guards, organizes poaching patrol operations, educates youth and the public about ecology, and encourages sustainable consumption and production patterns. Additionally, the organization has equipped schools with solar equipment and strengthened socioeconomic infrastructures by constructing water pumps and health and social promotion centers in various villages. AGN also provides paramilitary training to people in biodiversity protection careers on intervention techniques against poaching, surveillance operations, and ecological monitoring.

Tree Aid

Tree Aid has been working with communities across Burkina Faso since 1994 with the mission of restoring forests and improving peoples livelihoods. Understanding that as a result of the climate crisis and unsustainable farming practices, like overgrazing of land, â…“ of the country’s population is living in extreme poverty. Tree Aid has helped launch initiatives to support forest management and educate local farmers on how to make the transition from sustenance farming to sustainable rural development. Their Protect Forests project has provided people with the tools and training they need to restore and protect forest areas, as well as aided in the development of forest management plans. In addition, their Dryland Development project has trained thousands of farmers in water, soil, and forest management methods which they used to restore almost 7,000 hectares of land.

WaterAid

WaterAid is a non-governmental organization dedicated to providing individuals worldwide with clean water, sanitation, and hygiene products. They understand how precious water is in a landlocked country like Burkina Faso, which usually experiences no rainfall from October until May. WaterAid is dedicated to providing the people of this country – who almost half live without clean water – with the proper tools to have access to clean and potable water. Their Monitoring Water Levels initiative works towards securing access to water 365 days a year for the people of Burkina Faso. By investing in new sand dams and providing improvements to existing wells, WaterAid has greatly helped this country in which 14 million people don’t have a working toilet. Additionally, they offer training and tools to local people with the goal of teaching them how to measure water levels, monitor rainfall, pre-empt threats and spot emerging data patterns.
